Bird Brown-Breast and his mate discover a white egg with a golden band in their nest, from which Little Bud, a human girl, emerges. Bud becomes the joy of the forest, befriending two exiled Elves longing to return to Fairy-Land. Bud journeys to Queen Dew-Drop, who decrees the Elves must create perfect garments to regain their status. The Elves struggle, but Bud's kindness inspires them to perform good deeds. Queen Dew-Drop allows them into Fairy-Land, but their garments remain withered. Humbled, the Elves work to revive the forest's flowers through winter, leading to blossoms everywhere in the spring. They return to Fairy-Land with Bud and are finally deemed worthy, thanks to their selflessness and Bud's tireless advocacy. Bud returns to her quiet forest life, content in the joy she has given, while all of Fairy-Land learned a lesson from gentle Little Bud.<br /><br />
